Where in the world is Jolanda Jones?
Yesterday Houston City Council was in session, but Council Member Jolanda Jones was not at the table. Council Member Jones is currently in Ghana, Africa on a boondoggle junket to explore how to bring jobs to Houston.
Dr. Jack Christie commented, “The citizens of Houston elected Council Member Jones to represent their needs in Houston. In light of all the serious issues before council, now seems like an inappropriate time to look for jobs in Ghana. I hope she will return to Houston immediately to do the job entrusted to her by the voters.”
The City of Houston is actively exploring the possibility that the developing nation of Ghana has the ability to create enough jobs in Houston to warrant such trips and use of resources.
Dr. Christie said, “When you consider all the things that the city could do to encourage economic development right here in Houston, this effort to seek jobs in Ghana seems wasteful, misguided, and just plain silly.”
Houston- Dr. Jack Christie announced today that he will run for Houston City Council, At Large #5 position. “After receiving a tremendous amount of encouragement from both past and new supporters to go for it, I have decided to run,” said Christie.
“I have heard a lot lately from folks who are ashamed of what is going on in city government. I said 2 years ago that I would do 3 times the job than the current Council Member, I now know I can do ten times better. I will serve with integrity, as I did when I was Chairman of the Texas State Board of Education, but most importantly I will be a leader that Houston can be proud of.
“Our city is thriving and growing, despite the national economic climate. This is a testament to our citizens who work hard every day to build their families, communities, and businesses. Houstonians deserve to be represented by someone who lives by these same principles and will fight for responsible, effective, common sense government that does not stand in the way of their dreams.
Over more than 20 years in public service, Dr. Jack Christie served with distinction as a fiscal watchdog who was noted for his balanced, bipartisan approach. He will work on Council to end waste, fraud, and abuse of the taxpayer’s money.
Dr. Jack Christie, father of 3 children, isthe former Chairman of the Texas State Board of Education, a marathon runner, and an Eagle Scout. Christie was a candidate in the 2009 race for Houston City Council, At Large #5, winning the Harris County portion of Houston in the run-off but was ultimately defeated by less than 1% of the vote in the combined counties canvas.
